This adai is made with oats, corn meal, onion and chillies.

Ingredients

  • Oats – 2 cups

  • Corn Meal – 4 tablespoons (Please see the note below)

  • Red Chilli powder – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Red Chillies – 2 to 3

  • Asafoetida powder – a pinch

  • Turmeric powder – a pinch

  • Onion chopped finely – 1/2 cup

  • Curry leaves – few

  • Salt – 1 teaspoon or as per taste

  • Oil – 4 to 5 teaspoons

Directions

  • In a dry pan put the oats and fry till hot to touch. Cool it and powder it coarsely.
  • Add corn meal (shown below), red chilli powder, asafoetida powder, turmeric, red chillies broken into tiny bits, salt along with onion and curry leaves chopped finely. Mix thoroughly. Sprinkle water little by little and make a dough.
  • Make orange size balls. For the above quantity, you can get approximately 6 balls.
  • Heat a dosa pan and grease it.
  • In a plastic sheet, keep one ball and pat with your fingers and spread it round. Gently peel it from the sheet and put it in the tawa and pour little oil around it. Cook both sides.

Notes

  • Corn Meal is the ground corn / maize. It is readily available in stores. If you do not have it, use the yellow corns. You can powder the corn or soak it and grind it to a coarse paste.

  7. Hai Kamala,

Nice recipe. Today i tried this …yeah it came out well…..but in this recipe there is no binding agent, so when i pat the balls its not coming out in shape & also if its hot then its good to eat.

But anyhow nice healthy recipe. And i tried oats pongal & oats upma…..both r very good recipe, both came out very well.

Thanks a lot for ur new try.
    keep posting more.

  8. Hi Kalyani,

Thank you for your feedback. oats flour bind nicely. When you mix the oats flour with water, you will feel the stickiness and will bind with others. Try to sprinkle little more water to make the douch. Even when you stretch the flour to make the adai, it will stretch nicely.

  9. Can we use makki ka atta? I think that’s also corn flour? I live in Delhi……..
