This recipe is made with bread, onion and tomato. This evening snack is served with tea.

Ingredients

  • Bread Slices – 4

  • Rawa (Sooji) – 1/4 cup

  • Tomato (Big size) – 1

  • Onion (medium size) – 1

  • Green Chillies – 2

  • Coriander leaves – few

  • Red Chilli Powder – two small pinches

  • Salt – 1/4 teaspoon or as per taste

  • Oil – for deep frying

Directions

  • Chop onion, tomato, green chillies and coriander leaves finely.
  • Remove the brown portion from the corners of the bread slice and cut it into four squares.
  • Add the rawa (sooji) in a bowl. Add salt and red chilli powder and mix well.
  • Then add the chopped onion, tomato, green chillies and coriander leaves to the rawa. Mix it nicely. The juice in the tomato binds the rawa with onion etc. If necessary sprinkle little water and make a thick paste like consistency.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Coat the bread slices with the rawa paste and deep fry till it become crisp and golden yellow.

Surely children will like it very much.

  3. Will the Bread absorb more oil, during deep fry?

    • Hi Girija,

If you allow to dry the bread slices for few hours or if you use the some old (not stale) bread, it will not absorb more oil. But if you use the fresh one it will be more oily. You can put the crispies in a paper towel after frying. This way the extra oil will be absorbed by the paper.

    Hi,
If I coat the mixure in bread and deep fry, then tomato or onion will not comeout in oil??

    • No. It will not come out. Rawa will bind the ingredients to the bread slice. However make sure the rawa mixture is like paste and when you apply to the bread it will stick to it.

  18. why it observe oil??
& how to make rava paste..??

    • Any deep fried item will be oily only. Bread tend to absorb more oil. After frying if you put it in a kitchen paper towel, the paper will absorb the oil and the crispies will not have any oil. To make rawa paste, just add the tomato and other ingredients and knead it well, like making a dough. The tomato juice will bind the rawa. Still if you feel it is dry, then sprinkle little water and make a paste.
