Milk Coconut Burfi

Ingredients

  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 2 cups
  • Coconut gratings – 3 cups
  • Cardamom Powder – ½ teaspoon

Directions

  1. Put milk, sugar and coconut gratings in a heavy bottomed kadai (non-stick preferable) and keep it on the stove. Keep the flame to medium and stir continuously till it thickens and become solid. (It took nearly 20 minutes for me to reach this stage on medium flame). Add cardmom powder and mix well. ( If you wish, you can add few drops of desired colour and essence at this stage).Transfer it to a greased plate and level it.
  2. Cut it into desired shape.
  3. For the above quantity, we will get 10 to 12 pieces.
  4. Note: You can also prepare this in Microwave Oven. (Ensure to take out the vessel from microwave oven now and then and stir well and put it back in the Oven till you get thick consistency).

  1. hi,

it is is toknow burfis can be prepared without the problem of paakam..

    lovely easy recipe.. will try

  2. Hi Shobana,

Burfi can be prepared without the problem of the sugar syrup consistency. Once the mass is leaving the sides of the vessel and form a ball like mass, then it is understood that the pagu is blended well with other ingredients. If you remove the buri at this stage and once it is cool, then you can cut it without any diffculty.

  13. Hi Kamala ji..ur recipes r just too good. .have tried most of them and I refer only to ur website ..ji 1 doubt,I tried making this burfi exactly with the same quantity of ingredients mentioned..however when I transferred to a plate and waited for half an hour, even then its so loose due to which am not able to cut into shapes.Could you please let me know why and wat to do ?

    • I think the burfi is not cooked to the right consistency. Sometime, due to the quality of the milk, it will take more time to get the right consistency. If you microwave it for few seconds, then it will become little hard and you will be able to cut it.

  14. Hi mam,

This recipe came out very well. Thank you. Should I refrigerate this Burfi?
