Milk Halwa

Ingredients

  • Milk – 2 cups
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup
  • Ghee – ½ cup
  • Rawa – ¼ cup

Preparation:
Put all the  ingredients in a thick bottomed Kadai and keep it on medium flame. Stir continuously till it become thick and leaves the sides of the vessel.

Remove and put it in a greased bowl.

No need to add any flavoring agent. It tastes like milk khoya. However if you desire, you can add sliced almond or pistas.

Note: You can also prepare this in microwave oven. Put everything in a microwavable bowl and cook it for 8 to ten minutes or until it reaches the right consistency. Make sure to take it out every two minutes and stir thoroughly and put it in microwave.

It took me approx 20 to 25 minutes to prepare this halwa. If you do it in microwave, I think within 15 minutes you can prepare.

    Hi Kamala ,
This Paal halwa turned out to be just the Authentic halwa I had tasted in Coimbatore Krishnasweets and Gowri Shankar. It is easy and less time consuming as compared to other sweets. This year Deepavali sweets are from your site. I am going to refer you in my blog. Hope that is alright with you.
Happy Diwali to you and your family
    Best Regards

  27. Hello Kamala Mam,

I tried your Milk Halwa recipe today. It came out well but does not look as attractive as your picture 🙂 Ofcourse there should be some difference between an eminent cook and a learner isn’t it? 😉

    • Hi Kalpagam,

Thank you for your feed back. Anybody can be an eminent by practice. You must be overcooked the halwa or undercooked. If you try one or two times, you will know exactly when to remove from the stove. Then the halwa will be perfect in appearance too.

  28. hi mam!

Can you post CARROT halwa. i know that the receipe is more or less same but the doubt is we must smash or grate it (Also heard that some people insist to use only specific carrots – reddish rosy)

Hai i tried milk halwa just now its amazing in taste we all enjoyed it and my hubby asked to prepare it again . Tks for such a delicious recipe

  47. hai mam,

I have a doubt that milk should be boiled before adding and do we roast rawa… as i am a beginner am getting lots of doubt… i hope you will help me out… everyday i search a recipe to cook in your website…am so interested in cooking new dishes after seeing your blog… thank you so much…

    Roopa

    • Hi Roopa,

No need to fry the rawa. Milk also need not be boiled before adding rawa. Put all the ingredients together in a thick bottomed kadai and stir continuously till it become thick and reach halwa stage.

  48. hi dear,

    i hv made it on janmashtami n it just awsm… everyone likes it….again i m preparing 4 ganesh chaturthi….
    thnx 4 sharing …….

  49. Hi,

Thx for this; planninng to do it in microwave oven. Looks bit easy; but which rawa need to be used?

    Sunil

    • You can use ordinary bombay rawa.

      • Hi Tried this Diwali, came well. But as said, its not cooked in 10 mins in oven. It took me more than 30 minutes and taste bit looks like a kesari. Is that so? But its delicious. Thanks..

        • The cooking time may vary according to the microwave oven you use. Also if the milk is watery (fat removed and toned milk), it will take more time. If you add more rawa it tastes like kesari. When you cook with full fat milk with small bombay rawa, it tastes like Milk Khoya.

  50. I try today., really it’s amazing ..fabulous taste….

  51. geethanedunchezhiyan

Very nice. My son liked this soooo much. Thank u

  52. Kamalamma,

    I tried this dish again yesterday and it came out very well. Last time I was disappointed about its colour but இந்த முறை எல்லாமே நன்றாக அமைந்தது. இப்படி ஒரு எளிமையான, இனிமையான குறிப்பிற்கு நன்றி!!

  53. Balaji Venkatachalam

    Hello Madam,

Your recipes are simply superb – it is our bible. For this halwa, do we need to use fine semolina rawa or coarse one? Thanks

  54. Sivaranjani

    Vanakam kamala madam,

I am a beginner in cooking.. i just saw your website yesterday. I made bottle ground pal kootu and milk halwa.. kootu came out really well. It came out very well… It was like a aviyal. My family members really liked it very much.. But milk halwa comes just like a kesari.. It doesnt have the halwa consistency..
I dint know where I was wrong. Your website is very useful and encouraging. Please Post more mam.

    • Welcome to our site Sivaranjani. Thank you for your feed back. For Milk Halwa, I think you would have added more rawa. Moreover, milka halwa consistency is like milk khoya only.

  55. Hello mam,
All your recipes are so well explained and every time I make them they turn out really well. Can I use roasted rava for this milk halwa recipe? Will it yield me the same result?

    • Hi Gayathri,

When you add roasted rawa, the flavour of the roasted rawa dominate and tastes like kesari. Adding unroasted rawa for this halwa just for thickening.

  56. Vanakam Ma’am,

I would like to try this milk halwa for Shirdi Sai Baba Temple. Can I use powdered milk instead of fresh milk? How much milk powder needed for 4 cups of water?. I’m planning to double the above measurement.

    Thanks

    • Hi Abiramani,

Milk powder will not give the required texture and taste. Better to go with good fresh milk. If you want to try with milk powder, first prepare with little quantity and taste it. If it is OK, then proceed with large quantity. Milk powder and water ratio is depend upon the brand and quality of the milk powder and you have to check the pack only.

  57. This has become a go to recipe for a quick milk kesari craving! I have made it more than thrice and it came out perfectly every single time.

  58. Jabez Samuel
