Pottu Kadalai Urundai also known as Maaladu or Maa Laddu is one of the traditional sweets prepared during Deepavali or any special occasions.

Ingredients

  • Pottukadalai – 3 cups

  • Sugar – 2 cups

  • Ghee – ½ cup

  • Cardamon – 8

  • Cashew Nuts – 10

Directions

  • In a blender, grind the pottukadalai to a fine powder. Do the same for the sugar. Sieve both powders to ensure they’re lump-free.
  • Measure out equal amounts of the pottukadalai and sugar powders and combine them in a mixing bowl.
  • Grind cardamom to a powder and incorporate it into the mixture.
  • Heat a teaspoon of ghee in a kadai (or wok) and fry the cashew nuts until golden brown. Add these to the dry mixture and combine well.
  • In the same kadai, melt the remaining ghee. Once hot, pour it over the flour mixture. Stir thoroughly using a spoon.
  • When the mixture is warm to the touch, knead it by hand and shape it into small, lemon-sized balls. Continue until you’ve used all the mixture.
  • This recipe should yield approximately 20 Urundais.
