- Sathu Maavu (Health Drink Mix) – 2 cups
- Milk Powder – 1 cup
- Sugar – 1 and 1/2 cup
- Ghee – 2 tablespoons
In India, we make a very Nutrient flour (“Sathu maavu” in Tamil) using multi-grains, nuts, dhals, etc. It is rich in protein and normally “Kanji” (porridge) is prepared using this flour. For sweet porridge, milk and sugar is added and for sour version, buttermilk and salt is added.
Since preparing the flour at home is a time consuming task, most people buy this flour readymade from market. Number of Food Processing Companies are selling this flour as “Health Mix Powder” under their Brand Name.
I made this burfi using “Manna Sathu Maavu”.
- In a kadai put a tablespoon of ghee and add sathu maavu. Fry for two to three minutes on a medium flame. Remove from stove. Add milk powder to the fried flour and mix well. Keep aside.
- In a kadai put half cup water and add sugar. Bring to boil. When it starts boilding with bubbles, reduce the heat and add the flour. Stir continuously till it become thick. Add remaining ghee and mix well. It should be like a soft dough. Transfer to a greased plate. When it is cool, cut it into desired shape.
- Note: I have not added any flavouring agent, since the health mix itself contains cardamom powder. If you want you can add little cardamom or few drops of vanilla essence. You can also add chopped nuts to this burfi.
