Rosapoo Chutney

Rosapoo Chutney is the specialty of Thanjavur region. Even though there is no “Rosapoo” (Rose flower) in this chutney, people call this as Rosapoo Chutney, may be due to its colour. It is an easy and quick chutney goes well with Idli/Dosa.

Another Spicy Onion Chutney is also called by this name.

This quick chutney is made with tomato, shallots and red chillies and served with Idli/Dosa.

Ingredients

  • Tomato (medium size) – 1

  • Sambar Onion (shallot) – 4 to 5

  • Red Chillies – 3 to 4

  • Salt – 1/4 teaspoon or as per taste

Directions

  • Cut the tomato into medium size pieces.
  • Put the tomato pieces, onion, red chillies and salt in a mixie jar and grind it to a fine paste.

Notes

  • Seasoning (Tadka) this chutney is optional.
  • If you want, you can season (tadka) it with mustard, urad, asafoetida and curry leaves.
