The chayote, also called as “chow chow” or “Bangalore Kathirikkai” is low in calories and high on nutrients It is a good source of potassium, amino acid and Vitamin C.
It cures urinary infections and renal stones. It is traditionally used as a remedy for hypertension.
Like cucumber, it also has more water content. We can make salad, kootu, curry, sambar etc with chayote. Also we can make tasty Bajji with this vegetable.
