Cabbage Rice

Ingredients
Cooked Rice – 1 bowl (sufficient for 2 to 3 people)
Chopped Cabbage – 2 cups
Onion – 1
Capsicum chopped – 2 tablespoons
Cooked Cow Gram (Karamani) – 2 tablespoons
Green Chillies – 3
Fresh Ginger – a small piece
Curry leaves- few
Coriander Leaves – few
Mint Leaves – few
Oil – 2 tablespoons
Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
Bengal gram dal – 1 teaspoon
Urad Dal – 1 teaspoon
Red Chilli – 1
Asafoetida Powder – 2 pinches
Salt – 1 teaspoon or as per taste
Directions
- Chop onion, ginger finely. Slit the green chillies.
- In a kadai put the oil and when it is hot add mustard. When it starts crackle, add bengal gram dal, urad dal, red chilli and asafetida powder. Fry till the dals become light brown.
- Add chopped onion and fry for a while.
- Add green chillies, curry leaves and fry for few seconds.
- Add mint leaves and fry just a second and add chopped cabbage and mix well.
- Add salt and Capsicum pieces and mix it once again.
- Close with a lid and cook for 1 or 2 minutes on slow flame stirring now and then.
- Then add the cooked Karamani (Cow Gram) and cooked rice and mix well.
- Check for salt and if required add little salt.
- Finally add chopped coriander leaves and mix everything well and serve.
Notes
- I have added pre-cooked Karamani in this recipe. You can add any kind of cooked gram like Green Gram (Pachai Payaru), Whole Gram (Kondai Kadalai), Pea Nut etc.
- Fresh Green peas can also be added to get extra taste.
