Ingredients
Khus Khus – 1 cup
Milk – 2 cups
Khoya or condensed milk – ¼ cup
Dry coconut powder – ½ cup
Sugar – 2 cups
Ghee – 1 cup
Cardamom Powder – 1 teaspoon
Cashew Nuts – 10 to 15
Directions
- Soak the poppy seeds in water overnight.
- The next day, drain the poppy seeds and rinse them well. Transfer them to a blender and grind them to a smooth paste, adding some milk as needed.
- In a skillet, heat a teaspoon of ghee and fry the cashew nuts until golden. Set them aside for later.
- In the same skillet, heat the remaining ghee over medium-low heat. Add the poppy seed paste and cook, stirring constantly, until it loses its raw smell and turns light brown.
- Add the milk and keep stirring until the paste thickens and absorbs all the milk.
- Add the khoya or condensed milk, sugar and coconut powder. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick and leaves the sides of the skillet.
- Stir in the cardamom powder and fried cashew nuts. Transfer the halwa to a greased bowl and enjoy.
