Ingredients
Red Chilli – 1 cup
Coriander seeds – 1 cup
Thuvar Dhal – 1/4 cup
Bengal gram dhal – 1/4 cup
Urad dhal – 2 tablespoons
Black Pepper – 1 tablespoon
Jeera – 1 teaspoon
Fenugreek seeds – 1 teaspoon
Oil – Two or three teaspoons
Directions
- In a little oil, fry separately coriander seeds, red chillies, Bengal gram, thuvar dal, fenugreek seeds, pepper and jeera to a light golden colour.
- When cooled, grind all these ingredients to a fine powder.
- To make vatha kuzhambu
- Soak lemon size tamarind in water and extract the tamarind juice. Add enough water and make two cups of tamarind water.
- Add turmeric powder and a teaspoon of salt to the tamarind water and bring to boil.
- When it starts boiling, add one tablespoon vatha kuzhambu podi and allow to boil for few seconds.
- Season it with mustard, fenugreek and asafotida powder.
