This yam (senai or suran) curry is made with Yam, Onion and Tomato. This is usually served with rice as a side dish.

Yam – 1 big piece
Onion – 1 Big
Tomato – 1 fully ripe
Sambar Powder – 2 teaspoons
Turmeric Powder – A Pinch
Curry Leaves – Few
Oil – 2 tablespoon
Mustard – ½ Teaspoon
Urad Dhal – 1 Teaspoon
Asafoetida powder – a pinch
Salt – 1 Teaspoon Or As Per Taste
Directions
- Wash and remove the skin from yam and cut it into medium size pieces. (You can also use frozen yam pieces.)
- Put it in a pan and add enough water and cook it till soft. Or pressure cook for two whistles. Drain the excess water after cooking.
- Finely chop the onion and tomato.
- In a pan add the oil and when the oil is hot add mustard.
- When the mustard pops, add urad dhal and fry till it turns light brown.
- Add asafoetida, chopped onion and curry leaves. Fry them well.
- Then add chopped tomatoes and fry until the tomato is mashed well.
- Add sambar powder, turmeric powder and salt and stir.
- Then add cooked yam pieces and stir gently and cook till it is dry.

Hi, can you specify quantity of yam? Will this be about 250 grams?
