Simple curry made with beans and coconut gratings

Ingredients

  • Beans – 100 gms

  • Green Gram Dhal – two tablespoons

  • Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon

  • Green Chillies – 2 to 3

  • Turmeric powder – a pinch

  • Oil – 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard – half teaspoon

  • Curry leaves few

  • Salt – ½ teaspoon or as per taste

Directions

  • Wash and chop the beans into small pieces.
  • Cook the green gram dal with a pinch of turmeric powder until it’s soft but not mushy, about three-quarters done.
  • In a kadai, heat one teaspoon of oil and add mustard seeds. Once they pop, add curry leaves and slit green chilies, frying them briefly.
  • Then, add the beans with salt and sprinkle a handful or two of water. Stir well, cover with a lid, and cook on a medium flame until the beans are tender and the water has evaporated.
  • Finally, add the cooked dal and grated coconut, mixing thoroughly.
  • Tip: When adding the cooked dal, remove any excess water by squeezing it out with your hands before adding it to the beans. This will help the dal mash slightly and integrate well with the beans.
