Puttu Podi is a coarse rice powder normally used for making Puttu. This Urundai is prepared using the Puttu Podi and coconut gratings. It is easy to make and have it as evening snack or breakfast/ dinner.

Puttu Podi Urundai are soft, steamed rice-coconut dumplings made from puttu podi. Bring 2 cups water to a boil, add salt and grated coconut, then lower the heat and stir in the puttu podi until it forms a soft dough. Once cool enough to handle, roll into lemon-sized balls, place them on an idli or steamer plate, and steam for 10 minutes. Serve hot with a spicy chutney for a comforting, easy snack or breakfast.

Ingredients

  • Puttu Podi – 1 cup

  • Coconut gratings – 1 cup

  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon

Directions

  • Boil 2 cups of water. Add salt and coconut gratings to the boiling water.
  • Reduce the heat and add Puttu Podi and stir continuously till it becomes soft dough.
  • When the dough is warm enough to handle, take the dough and shape it into lemon size balls.
  • Arrange it in a idli plate or steamer plate and steam cook for ten minutes.
  • Serve with any spicy chutney.
