Ingredients
Suraikai (Bottle Gourd) – a small one
Potato – 1
Onion – 1
Tomato – 1
Sambar Powder – 1 teaspoon
Red Chilli Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Garam Masala Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt – 1/2 teaspoon or as per taste
- For Seasoning:
Oil – 2 teaspoons
Cinnamon sticks – 2 small pieces
Sombu (fennel seeds) – 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander leaves – few for garnishing
Directions
- Remove the skin and inner white seed portion from the bottle gourd. Cut it into bite size pieces.
- Peel the skin from potato and cut it into same size pieces.
- Chop Onion and tomato finely.
- In a pressure cooker pour the oil and heat it. Add cinnamon sticks and fennel seeds.
- Add chopped onion and fry for a while. Then add tomato pieces and fry till it mashes well.
- Add sambar powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
- Then add garam masala powder and mix it.
- Now add bottle gourd and potato pieces and mix everything well.
- Add a cup of water and stir well. Close with the lid and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
- Once the pressure is reduced, open the cooker and give a stir.
- Transfer to another bowl and garnish with coriander leaves.
