Thuvattal is a traditional Tamil Nadu recipe that refers to a dry dish made with vegetables or lentils. The dish typically involves roasting the main ingredient in a dry pan with spices until it’s slightly crispy and aromatic. Thuvattal dishes are usually served as a side dish for rice or as a snack.
Avarakkai Thuvattal is a simple and flavorful stir-fry made with tender broad beans. The vegetable is cooked until soft and seasoned with mustard seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves for added aroma. A unique touch comes from the addition of roasted rice and red chili powder, which enhances the flavor and texture. Finished with grated coconut, this dry curry pairs perfectly with steamed rice. It goes well with sambar or rasam, making it a wholesome and delicious side dish.
This looks so good. Miss avarakkai here!
Hi Divya Vikram,
You will find Avaraikai (Broad Beans) in Indian stores at US. Ofcourse, it slightly tastes different from the one we get in India.
