Sweet Potato (Sarkarai Valli Kizhanku) Poriyal


  • Sweet Potato – 2 Nos
  • Sambar Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Curry Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch
  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil – 2 teaspoon
  • Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon
  • Curry Leaves – few

Wash and cut the sweet potatos into small pieces and put it in water.
In a kadai put the oil and add mustard seeds and when it pops up add the urad dhal and fry till it turns light brown. Add curry leaves and fry for a while. Add sweet potato pieces along with salt, sambar powder, turmeric powder. Sprinkle a handful of water and cover with lid. Cook on low flame till the potatos are soft. Add curry powder and coconut gratings, mix well and remove.
