Vazhaikai (Banana) Poriyal


  • Green banana – 1
  • Curry Powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard – ½ teaspoon
  • Oil – 2 teaspoon
  • Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon
  • Curry Leaves – few

Remove the skin from the banana and cut it into small pieces. Put it into a vessel and add salt, turmeric powder and just enough water to cover the vegetable. Cook till the vegetable is soft. Drain the excess water. In a kadai put the oil and add mustard seeds and when it pops up add the urad dhal and fry till it turns light brown. Add curry leaves and fry for a while. Add the cooked banana along with a pinch of salt and curry powder. Stir well. Add coconut gratings, mix well and remove.
