Ingredients

  • Green Banana – 1

  • Onion – 1 small

  • Green Chilly – 1

  • Fresh Ginger – a small piece

  • Coconut gratings – 2 tablespoons

  • Sambar Powder – 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder – a pinch

  • Oil – 1 tablespoon

  • Mustard – ½ teaspoon

  • Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida Powder – ¼ teaspoon

  • Curry leaves – few

  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon or as per taste

  • Lemon juice – ½ teaspoon (Optional)

Directions

  • Cut the banana in half and boil it with the skin on for five to seven minutes. Once done, peel and let it cool. You can either grate the banana or gently mash it by hand.
  • Finely chop the onion, ginger, and green chili.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds. Once they pop, add urad dal and asafoetida, frying until the dal turns light brown.
  • Add the chopped ginger, green chili, curry leaves, and onion. Fry well until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
  • Add the grated or mashed banana, along with salt, turmeric powder, and sambar powder. Mix well to combine.
  • Cover the kadai with a lid and cook on low heat for four to five minutes.
  • Finally, add grated coconut and stir everything well. Add lemon juice and turn off the heat.

Notes

  • If you like masala taste, then add half teaspoon of aniseeds in the seasoning.
  • Also adding lemon juice will give tangy taste to the Podimas. If you do not like, then skip adding the lemon juice.
