Pachai Payaru (Green Gram) Sundal is a nutritious and protein-packed dish that’s not only healthy but also easy to prepare, making it an ideal evening snack.

Ingredients

  • Pachai Payaru (Green gram) – 1 cup

  • Oil – 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli – 2 Nos

  • Fresh Ginger – a small piece

  • Asafoetida – a pinch

  • Curry leaves – few

  • Lemon juice – few drops

  • Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon

  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon or as per taste

Directions

  • Soak the Green Gram in water for about 4 to 5 hours.
  • Wash well and boil it in sufficient water along with salt till it is soft, but not mushy.
  • Drain the excess water and keep it aside.
  • In a frying pan add the oil and when it is hot add mustard. When it pops up, add urad dhal and fry till it become light brown.
  • Add asafoetida, red chillies (cut into pieces), finely chopped ginger and curry leaves. Fry for a second.
  • Then add the cooked gram. Mix well.
  • Then add the coconut gratings and combine it. Switch off the stove.
  • Before removing add lemon juice and mix everything well once again.

Notes

  • You can also pressure cook the soaked gram for two whistles.
