A quick and easy kootu made with cabbage and green gram dhal. The dhal is soaked for an hour before cooking. This kootu can be served with hot rice.

Ingredients

  • Cabbage – 1 medium size piece

  • Bengal gram dhal – 1 tablespoon

  • Coconut gratings – 2 tablespoons

  • Jeera – 1 teaspoon

  • Red Chillies – 3 Nos

  • Oil – 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard – ½ teaspoon

  • Onion – chopped one tablespoon

  • Curry leaves – few

  • Salt – 1 teaspoon or as per taste

Directions

  • Chop the cabbage finely and put it in a vessel with a bit of water and salt. Cook until the cabbage is soft.
  • Meanwhile, soak the bengal gram dhal in water for about half an hour and cook it until it is soft.
  • Grind the coconut, jeera and red chillies together into a fine paste and add it to the cooked cabbage and cooked bengal gram dhal.
  • Mix everything together and cook for an additional three to five minutes in a medium flame. Finally, season the dish with mustard, chopped onion, and curry leaves.
