Yam (Senai) fry

A simple a quick side dish made with Yam (senai). Yam is generally considered healthier than potato because they have low glycemic index (GI) than potato. This is side dish that goes well with Mor Kuzhambu, sambar or Poricha Kuzhambu and served with rice.

How to make

Yam (Senai) fry is a delicious and crispy dish made from fresh or frozen yam. To prepare, start by peeling the yam and cutting it into 2-inch pieces. Cook the yam in an open vessel until it is soft but not overcooked. Once cooked, place the yam in a bowl. Season it with red chili powder, turmeric powder, besan flour, rice flour, corn flour, and salt. Mix well to coat each piece. Heat oil in a kadai and fry the seasoned yam pieces one by one until they turn golden brown. Enjoy this flavorful snack as an appetizer or side dish!

Ingredients

  • Yam (Senai kizhangu) – 1 big piece

  • Red Chilli powder – 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder – a pinch

  • Besan flour – 1 tablespoon

  • Rice flour – 1 tablespoon

  • Corn flour – 1 tablespoon

  • Salt – 1 teaspoon

  • Oil for deep frying

Directions

  • Remove the skin from yam and cut it into 2 inch long size pieces. (You can also use frozen cut yam pieces available in stores).
  • Cook the yam in open vessel till it is soft. Do not overcook.
  • Put the cooked yam pieces in a big bowl. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, besan flour, rice flour, corn flour, salt and mix well.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and put the yam pieces one by one in hot oil and fry till it become golden brown
