Carrot Halwa

Ingredients

  • Carrot – 6 Nos
  • Milk – 2 cups
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Khoya – ½ cup
  • Ghee – 3 tablespoon
  • Cashew Nuts – 10 Nos
  • Raisin – 10 Nos
  • Cardamom – 6 Nos (powdered)

Directions 1

  1. Remove the skin from carrot and grate it. Put it in a pressure cooker and add milk. Pressure cook it for two whistles. When it is cool, open it and put in on a stove. Keep the flame to medium.
  2. Add sugar and khoya and mix well. Stir continuously till it becomes thick.
  3. Add ghee and mix well. Now the halwa will come out of the sides of the vessel.
  4. Add cardamom powder, fried cashew nuts and raisins.

Directions 2

  1. Remove the skin from carrot and grate it. Put it in a microwave dish and add milk. Microwave it uncovered for 15 minutes.
  2. But for every five minutes, stop the oven and mix the carrot.
  3. Add sugar and khoya and mix well. Microwave it uncovered for ten minutes.
  4. Add ghee and cardamom powder and again microwave it for five to seven minutes.
  5. Fry the cashew nuts and raisins in a teaspoon of ghee and add to it.

    What is meant by Khoya. Pls explain me

  2. Hi Radha,

    Khoya is also known as "Mawa" and it is the product of milk shortened and available at stores. If you do not have khoya, you can add condensed milk or milk powder. Even without khoya or any milk product, carrot halwa can be prepared.

    • Hi Nalini Vijay,

      Rasagulla recipe is long pending. Other reader Suchitra also asking for this and actually she sent some links also for trying this recipe. In fact I have not tried rasagullah at home. Once I succeed in making this, I will post it.

    • Green Gram dal is yellow moong dal and it is called in Tamil as “Payatham paruppu” or “Paasi Paruppu”. Whole moong which is green in colour is called “Pachai Payaru” in Tamil.
