Yellow pumpkin (tender pumpkin tastes good) – 1 big piece
Green Gram dhal (Pasi paruppu / Payatham Paruppu) – 1/2 cup
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 Teaspoon
Sambar powder – 1 teaspoon
Small tomato- 1 No
Onion chopped finely – 1 tablespoon
Salt – 1 Teaspoon Or As Per Taste
Oil – 1 Teaspoon
Mustard – 1/2 Teaspoon
Urad Dhal – 1 Teaspoon
Asafoetida Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Curry Leaves – Few
Directions
- Cook green gram dhal along with a pinch of turmeric powder till soft.
- Remove the skin and seeds from the pumpkin. Cut into bite size pieces.
- In a frying pan, put one teaspoon oil. When it is hot add mustard seed. When it pops up add urad dhal, asafoetida powder and fry till the dhal becomes light brown.
- Add onion and curry leaves. Fry for a while and add tomato pieces and fry.
- Add pumpkin pieces.
- Add turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt.
- Add a cup of water just to cover the vegetable. Mix it and cook till the vegetable is soft.
- Now add the cooked dhal and once again mix it well and allow to boil and remove.
Notes
- Can be served as side dish for any spicy kuzhambu or taken with hot steamed rice.
