Mohan Dal

Mohan dal is a popular Indian sweet dish made with besan flour, sugar, ghee (clarified butter), and flavored with cardamom. It is usually served during festivals and special occasions. To make Mohan dal dessert, besan flour is cooked with ghee, sugar, and cardamom powder until it reaches a thick consistency. Once the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan, it is removed from the heat and allowed to cool. It is then shaped into small balls or cut into squares, similar to fudge. Optionally, it can be garnished with chopped nuts like almonds or pistachios. Mohan dal dessert is known for its rich, creamy texture and sweet taste. It is best enjoyed chilled and can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.

Learn how to make delicious Mohan Dhal with this easy recipe. With just a few simple ingredients like besan flour and sugar, you can create a tasty treat!

Ingredients

  • Besan flour – 2 cups

  • Milk powder – 2 cups

  • Ghee – 2 cups

  • Sugar – 3 cups

  • Venila essence – few drops

  • Cashew nuts – chopped 2 tablespoons

  • Almond and Pista – chopped 2 tablespoons

Directions

  • Place the ghee in a kadai over medium heat. Once the ghee is warm, reduce the heat to low, add the besan, and fry until it releases a fragrant aroma. Be careful not to burn it. Remove the kadai from the heat and set aside. When the besan is still warm but cool enough to handle, stir in the milk powder until well combined.
  • In a separate vessel, combine 3/4 cup of water with sugar to prepare a thick syrup. The syrup is ready when a little dropped into cold water forms a soft ball.
  • Once the syrup reaches the desired consistency, turn off the stove. Carefully add the besan and milk powder mixture to the syrup, mixing thoroughly to ensure there are no lumps.
  • Stir in the vanilla essence, mixing well to evenly distribute the flavor. Transfer the mixture onto a greased plate and use a flat spoon to level the top.
  • Evenly sprinkle the chopped nuts over the mixture. Allow it to cool completely at room temperature. Once set, cut the mixture into square pieces.
