This halwa made with raw rice, coconut, cashew nuts, jaggery and cardamom can be prepared for pujas and distributed as Prasad.

Ingredients

  • Raw Rice – 2 cups

  • Coconut gratings – 1 cup

  • Ghee – 8 tablespoon

  • Cashew Nuts – 10

  • Cardamom – 8

  • Jaggery powdered – 2 cups

Directions

  • Soak the rice for two to three hours.
  • Drain out the water and grind it along with coconut to a fine paste.
  • Add the jaggery in a vessel along with one cup water and bring to boil.
  • Remove from stove and strain it.
  • Again add this into heat and allow to boil for five minutes.
  • Now add the rice and coconut paste and mix well.
  • Cook on low flame stirring continuously till it become solid.
  • Add ghee little by little and stir well.
  • Add powdered cardamom and cashew nuts fried in little ghee.
  • Mix well and stir well till it reaches halwa texture.

    can i use rice flour for rice halwa.

  2. Hi Jayashree,

    You can use rice flour. But when you grind the soaked rice along with coconut, it will give nice flavour to the halwa. If you use rice flour, then add coconut to the flour and grind it for two to three rounds in a mixie with little water and prepare this halwa. Or slightly fry the rice flour and use it. But it will be like “Thiruvathirai Kali”.
