Gooseberry Rice, or Nellikai Sadam, is a flavorful South Indian dish. It combines the tangy taste of finely grated or coarsely ground gooseberry with aromatic spices. To prepare, start by grating or chopping gooseberries and green chillies. In a hot frying pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they pop, add Bengal gram and Urad dal. Fry them until they turn golden brown. Next, add the green chillies, curry leaves, and gooseberries, sautéing for a few minutes on low heat. Season with salt and mix in cooked rice thoroughly. Just before serving, finish with a squeeze of lemon juice for extra zest. This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of kootu for a nutritious meal.
This Nellikai Sadam or gooseberry rice can be served with any kootu.

Rice packed with Vitamin C. Healthy n delicious one.
Yes Divya Vikram. When we mix it with rice, we can consume more gooseberry that too fresh.
want to know how to make gooseberry pachady without coconut. pls send the receipe.
Thank u
Rajalakshmi,
I have already posted a recipe for pachadi. You can just omi coconut and grind all other ingredients and make this pachadi. Or you can grate gooseberries and fry it in a little oil and add it to curd. Either way, it tastes good.
