Ingredients
Wheat Rawa – 1 cup
Onion – 1
Red Chillies – 2
Fresh ginger – a small piece
Bengal gram dhal – 1 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida Powder – a pinch
Curry leaves – few
Oil – 4 teaspoons
Mustard – ½ teaspoon
Salt – ½ teaspoon or as per taste
Directions
- In a kadai, put the rawa and dry fry till it changes its colour. Remove it and keep aside.
- In the same kadai, add the oil and when it is hot, add the mustard.
- When it pops up, add the dhals, red chillies broken into bits, asafoetida powder and fry till the dhal turns light brown.
- Add chopped onion and curry leaves. Fry till onions are transparent.
- Add two cups of water along with salt. Bring to boil.
- When it starts boiling, add the fried rawa and stir well.
- Close with lid and cook on low flame till all the water is absorbed and the rawa is cooked well.

Yes. cracked wheat is same as wheat rawa and it is light brown in colour, same as wheat colour.

For upma, finely chopped ginger is added at the seasoning along with onion.
