Ingredients
Sambar Onion – 15 to 20 Nos
Peanut – 1 cup
Red Chillies – 6
Tamarind – Small Gooseberry size
- For Seasoning:
Oil – 2 teaspoons
Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon
Asafetida Powder – 2 pinches
Salt – 1 teaspoon or as per taste
Directions
- In a kadai put one teaspoon oil and add sambar onion. Fry till it become translucent and light brown.
- Then add peanuts, tamarind and red chillies and fry for few more seconds.
- Transfer to a plate and allow to cool.
- Put fried onion, fried peanut, red chillies, tamarind and salt in a mixie jar and grind it to a paste.
- Season it with mustard and asafoetida powder.
Notes
- If you do not have sambar onion, you case use one big onion. Chop the big onion into cubes and use it.
I tried this today but the groundnut flavour was more and hence, it was like groundnut chutney.
I tried yesterday and it came out really well…a new taste.

It stays good for a day. If you keep it in the fridge you can keep it for one more day.
Made this for breakfast with Dosai. Came out really well and enjoyed it.
