A simple and quick chutney recipe made with tomato and onion.

Ingredients

  • Tomato (fully ripe) – 1 No

  • Big Onion – 1 No

  • Bengal gram dhal – 1 tablespoon

  • Red Chillies – 4 Nos

  • Asafoetida Powder – a pinch

  • Oil – 1 tablespoon

  • Mustard – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt – 1/2 teaspoon or as per taste

Directions

  • In a frying pan, add one teaspoon of oil and fry Bengal gram dhal until it turns light brown.
  • Then add red chillies and asafoetida and fry lightly, then remove.
  • In the same pan, add one more teaspoon of oil and add the onion pieces and fry for one minute.
  • Then add the tomato pieces and fry for one more minute.
  • Once cooled, mix all the ingredients together and grind them into a paste.
  • Finally, season the mixture with mustard to finish.

    I wanted to try out this chutney n I’ve a question. Shud the tomato also b of a bigger size? Do d onion n tomato be ssauted till they r cukd?

    • Hi,

      Size of onion and tomato will not make much difference. But if the tomato is sour variety, then use small size tomato. Just saute the tomato and onion for few seconds.
