This Uthappam is made out of dosa batter topped with tomato and pepper powder. It is served with Coconut Chutney and Sambar.  It can also be served with Idli Milagai Podi.

Ingredients

  • Dosa batter – one big bowl (approx 500 grams)

  • Big Onion – 1

  • Tomato – 2 to 3

  • Pepper – 1 teaspoon or as required

  • Salt – 1/4 teaspoon or as required

  • Oil – as required

Directions

  • Start by slicing the tomato into thin pieces. Next, crush some pepper into a coarse powder, mix in a little salt, and set this mixture aside.
  • Finely chop the onion and incorporate it into the dosa batter, ensuring it’s evenly mixed.
  • Preheat your dosa pan and lightly grease it with oil.
  • Pour a generous ladle of the batter onto the pan, spreading it slightly. Aim for a thickness that’s a bit more substantial than a regular dosa.
  • Gently place 4 to 5 tomato slices on top of the batter. Sprinkle the prepared pepper and salt mixture over the tomatoes for added flavor.
  • Drizzle a teaspoon of oil around the edges of the dosa. Allow it to cook on one side, then carefully flip it over to cook the other side as well.
  • Once both sides are cooked to your liking, your tomato dosa is ready to be served hot and enjoyed.
