Christmas time is here once again and it is the season of peace and goodwill. This is a time for caring and sharing family and friends. It is also a time of feasting.

Apart from varieties of cakes, cookies and other sweets following are some of the special items prepared in Indian homes during Christmas time.

  • Acchu Murukku

    Difficulty: Medium

    Acchu Murukku also known as Achappam or Rose cookie is a mild sweet Murukku, normally prepared during Christmas time.

  • Kulkul

    Difficulty: Medium

    Kulkuls are the sweet prepared all over India at Christmas time. This is normally made with maida, egg, coconut milk and sugar.

  • Sweet Thukkada

    Difficulty: Medium

    This recipe is made for Christmas using maida and sugar

  • Spicy Thukkada

    Difficulty: Medium

    A sweet dish made of Christmas with spices and maida flour

Another interesting aspect is drawing Christmas Kolam. In South India people draw big kolam every day during the Tamil month “Margazhi” (December-January). Since Christmas is coming in the month of Margazhi, on Christmas Day, irrespective of their Religion, people include a “Cross” or a “Christmas Tree” or “Jingle Bells” in their Kolam design.
