Thiruvathirai Festival, also known as Arudra Darisanam or Arudra Darshan, is observed in the Tamil month of Margazhi (December – January) on Thiruvathirai Nakshatram Day. It is a celebration of the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, which represents the continuous cycle of creation and destruction.
Thiruvathirai Kali and Kootu (also known as Thalagam) are the special food prepared in the morning and offered to Lord Shiva. Here are some of the dishes made for this festival.

Would also appreciate if importance of each festival is given, so that all of us know for what it is being celebrated. This knowledge would enlighten and fill zeal in celebrating it.

Thank you Mohandas.
hi mam,
I am new 2 ur blog. I was looking for rangoli i came into ur blog. It was very nice and all ur receipes are easy to follow. Its short & crisp.
My mum used to take all vridhams when i was young. she will force me, to take but i refuse to take.
When i saw ur thiruvathirai kali & kootu, i told my mum, that thiruvathirai falls on 18th dec. She was suprised to hear from me. I thought I too can start doing this and share with my mum.
If u had given me the details about how to start vridhams, it will be helpful for the new generation to know about the importance of our festivals, vridhams & dos & donts.
We are wasting money for shedding weight in gym & spas.
Thanks mum
