Broad Beans Poriyal (Avarakkai Poriyal) is a simple South Indian stir-fry. Finely chopped broad beans are cooked with sambar powder, turmeric, and salt. Lightly cooked green gram dal is added at the end for a hearty bite. A quick tempering of mustard seeds, cumin (jeera), and curry leaves in hot oil creates a fragrant base. A splash of water helps the beans steam until tender and dry. Finally, grated coconut and an optional pinch of curry powder are mixed in for a fresh, nutty finish. Serve as an everyday side with rice, sambar, or rasam.
This broad beans poriyal is also known as Avarakkai poriyal. It is made with broad beans, green gram dhal, sambar powder, and coconut gratings. You can also add some curry powder to give a different flavor.

Mami,
I see some red color in this picture. Is red chilli added in this recipe?
Hi Anusuya,
I have added little “Curry Powder” as mentioned in the recipe. The small chilli flakes you see in the picture is from the curry powder which enhance the taste of the poriyal.
