Vendakkai Fry

Vendakkai fry is a popular South Indian dish made with okra (also known as lady’s finger or bhindi). To make the dish, the okra is sliced and then marinated in a mixture of spices such as turmeric, chili powder, and coriander powder. The okra is then fried until it becomes crispy and golden brown.

Vendakkai fry is a tasty and easy-to-prepare side dish that can be served with rice or any Indian bread like roti, naan or paratha. The dish has a unique texture, with the crispy exterior of the okra contrasting with its soft and tender interior. It is also a popular vegetarian and vegan dish, as it does not contain any meat or animal products.

Overall, vendakkai fry is a delicious and flavorful dish that is enjoyed by many in South India and beyond. This recipe can be also prepared in “Air Fryer” with just a teaspoon of oil. Recipe for air fried okra.

Vendakkai fry is a popular South Indian dish made with okra (also known as lady’s finger or bhindi).

Ingredients

  • Vendaikai – 10 or 15

  • Besan flour – 2 tablespoon

  • Rice flour – 1 teaspoon

  • Chilli powder – ½ teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder – a pinch

  • Jeera Powder – ½ teaspoon

  • Salt – ½ teaspoon

  • Oil – for deep frying

Directions

  • Cut the okra into two pieces. Cut each piece lengthwise into four. Cut all the okra like this.
  • Add all these pieces into a broad bowl.
  • Sprinkle besan, rice flour, chilli powder, turmeric, jeera powder and salt. Gently mix it. No need to add any water. The stickiness in the okra will bind the flours. If you find it too dry, then just sprinkle one or two teaspoons of water and mix it.
  • Heat oil in a tawa. Take out a handful of okra and drop it in the oil loosely.
  • Gently separate it in the oil. Fry till it become golden brown.
