Tamil New Year also known as “Varusha Pirappu” is on 14th April 2023. This year name is “Sobakiruthu” (சோபகிருது).
It is a time for celebrating new and prosperous beginnings. The common foods prepared for this day are made of Mango (Sour), Jaggery (Sweet) and Neem flower (Bitter) to signify the different aspects of our life.
Mango Pachadi or Neem Flower Pachadi and Neem Flower Rasam are the special dishes prepared for Tamil New Year. So for this special day cook some special dishes and enjoy with your family and friends.
Oh! I just bumped into your blog, I just got off the phone with my mom discussing tamil new year recipes. I will definitely try the pachadi, not sure if I can find neem flower here in US, can bitter gourd be used instead? Great work here, am sure to try out a lot more recipes from here 🙂
